Local rapper Linxstar sat down with Careers4bw to share his thoughts on being an industry rapper and how he stays motivated in trying to elevate himself in the rap game. He also dropped a few jewels for upcoming artists to adhere to.

Careers4bw: When did you start Rapping?

Linxstar: I been rapping since i was like 7 man kicking Tupac raps. Then it was Bussa Bus, then Snoop, Dre, Em. P-Side! I was kicking their raps at that age. Around 8, 9 my cousin Man-E had me writing my own lil' raps so yea it's always been there.

Careers4bw: What is like as an industry rapper as compared to the every day who has ambitions but has yet to put out a project?

Linxstar: Here in Bots, only difference is recognition. People knowing you a lil' that's it. Dudes coming up probably working hard just so they get their moment on TV. While dudes with projects out feel like they've done all they need to. Not much to aspire to if you're just thinking our market but if you're thinking bigger well yeah.

Careers4bw: What is more important, hard work or skill?

Linxstar: I think a balance between both is ideal. There's dudes out there who probably work tirelessly but still put out the *Drake voice* WORST stuff ever coz they just working without actually acquiring any skill. Similarly dudes with skill who don't put in the work don't appeal to nobody outside of the underground...but uhm, gun to my head and I legit had to pick one, I'd say hard work.

Careers4bw: How often do you practice your craft?

Linxstar: Let's just say it's a BAAAAAAD day if i don't at least jot  few lines down or run back a couple verses in my head either when I'm en route to or from work..over lunch...heck anytime really. I try make it a daily thing because that's just how important it is to put that work in.

Careers4bw: Who are your role models?

Linxstar: hmmm..Steven Gerrard, just a man, the guy is so legendary and he's the only one can drop and not even struggle to justify coz of how immense he is. He's a leader, a talented footballer and is so committed to what he does.

Will Smith, I've always found him super cool. Something about actors that makes you feel like you can be anything and there are way too many movies where he's done that for me. I don't know him personally obviously but I find it hard to believe the man isn't as awesome in person as he seems on screen.

There are a lot of rappers i look up to too for diff reasons I mean dang they made me wanna do this is and keep inspiring me today Eminem, Drake, Yeezy, Cole to mention a few. And Jay-Z and Kanye West

Careers4bw: Who would like to work with that you haven't already and why?

Linxstar: Melo-He's always been a rapper I respect and yea I think the collaboration would be dope. Nunu-I'm a big fan of her work, as well Jazz is just so rich and harmonic I love when good sounds come together and i think ours could really make a good mash up. Prez Beats, I'd also really like to work with TeePee he for me is a heavy HOOK dude! Khuli, AKA not for the obvious reason that I'm a fan but just on some "how would i fair amongst the greats tip" haha.
